Biography
Photography is in Neil Mersh’s blood: his father photographed weddings for a living, and although Mersh wanted to be an artist, he says he couldn’t draw, and so ended up following in his Dad’s well-trodden footsteps. He started out assisting established food photographers before moving into the world of still life and interiors, where he loves the teamwork of collaborating with stylists, and the window it provides him into another life entirely.
Professionally, Neil is as comfortable in a studio as on location, making use of light in all its forms, but his trademark and passion is colour, which saturates his graphic, texturally rich images, whether they be for Harrods, Argos, or Tesco.
Balancing commercial commissions for a diverse range of clients, from IKEA and Oral B, to Selfridges and Swarovski, he has also shot for titles such as The World of Interiors, Elle Decoration, AD France, Vogue UK, Homes & Gardens, How to Spend It (FT) and The New York Times magazine. Neil has also shot several books. He divides his time between north London and Paris, continually inspired by the energy, creativity and pace of city life.
