Biography
Dunja Opalko is a German-born, London-based photographer whose work centres on people, craft and the quiet details that shape a story. Working across portraiture, interiors and brand narratives, Dunja brings an intuitive, observational approach to both editorial and commercial commissions, creating images that feel natural, considered and emotionally resonant.
With a background as an Art Director and Designer in leading international agencies and photography studios, Dunja has a strong understanding of creative collaboration and visual storytelling. This foundation informs her ability to balance aesthetic sensitivity with the practical needs of a brief, allowing narratives to unfold with authenticity while staying true to the client’s vision.
Her work spans a range of clients including Monocle, The Guardian, The Economist, Condé Nast Traveller, Cosmopolitan, John Lewis, TOAST and Hauser & Wirth, as well as collaborations with artists such as Anthony Burrill.
Dunja’s photography has been widely recognised, including winning Portrait of Britain (Vol. 7) by the British Journal of Photography, and being shortlisted for Portrait of Humanity (Vol. 6) and The Photography Foundation Awards. She has also been a finalist for the AOP Open Awards (2023 and 2024). Her ongoing exploration of motherhood and creative life has been featured by It’s Nice That and Creative Boom, among others.
Alongside her photographic practice, Dunja co-founded Table Magazine in 2018, a bi-annual lifestyle and food publication where she led photography, art direction and design. After five productive years, she stepped away to focus on new creative directions.
