Biography
Toby Mitchell was raised in Bath, the son of an architect and a jewellery designer, so perhaps it was inevitable that he, too, would go into the creative arts - although growing up, he wanted to be a pilot. Indeed, nowadays, Toby’s photographs do have a transportative quality to them; he is drawn, he says, “to light and mood and atmosphere”.
Toby’s evocative, atmospheric images, characterised by their warmth and luminosity, have a visceral sense of place - whether that’s a sun-drenched balcony in a Parisian sunset or dappled morning sunlight, shafting through an Irish woodland.
Shooting both stills and motion, Toby’s uplifting, cinematic photographs and short films illuminate the brands he works with, which include Avanti, Audi, Bedfolk, The Dorchester Collection, Eurostar, Facebook, Fenwick, FORA, GQ, Identity Design, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Moet Hennessy, Nobu Hotels, Soho House, The Ned, Uber and Vola. Editorially, his work has featured in Conde Nast Traveller, Cereal, Good Place, Monocle and Travel & Leisure.
Professionally, Toby’s horizons continue to expand, most notably west towards the USA.
